World Series Boxing: British Lionhearts take-on Croatian Knights

About

The World Series of Boxing is coming to the North East and local boxers, Pat McCormack and Calum French, will headline the show when the British Lionhearts take-on the Croatian Knights at Gateshead Leisure Centre on Friday 16 February 2018.

McCormack and French are clubmates from Birtley ABC and part of the GB Boxing Olympic squad which provides the boxers to the British Lionhearts team that competes in WSB.

WSB is a global team boxing competition contested by the world’s leading amateur boxers.  It bridges the gap between Olympic and professional boxing and boxers compete without vests or headguards over five three-minute rounds.  A WSB match is contested over five bouts and the team that wins three or more is the winner.

“Pat and Calum are very talented boxers with a good track record in the competition and it is great that they are going to get the opportunity to compete in the WSB in front of their home fans. The North East is one of Great Britain’s boxing hotbeds and has consistently produced boxers that are part of the GB Boxing squad so it is great that we are able to take this competition to the region and put on a show for the fans.” The British Lionhearts’ Head Coach, Rob McCracken

World Series of Boxing (WSB) is a unique team boxing competition and one of the most exciting sports leagues in the world. Beginning in February 2018, Season VIII sees 11 teams compete in three regional groups; America, Europe and Asia, with home and away matches, consisting of five bouts each, between the group rivals.  The world’s premier boxing series is a hard-fought competition of unparalleled intensity, speed and power, where boxers compete across five rounds, scored using the 10 Points Must system.
