Permanent Displays at Discovery Museum:

Play Tyne: lets children explore in a hands-on water activity area designed especially for under 7s – free entry

A Soldier’s Life: A different approach to military history, focusing on the social side of army life during war and peacetime.

Newcastle Story: Discover the story of Newcastle from Romans to the present day.  Walk through time, into the streets, homes
and communities of Newcastle’s past, and hear the tales of its characters along the way.

Science Maze: Experience a fun zone buzzing with activity from huge working engines to exciting interactive, and Tyneside inventions that changed the world.

Story of the Tyne: Discover how the Tyne became the powerhouse of the British Empire; marvel at stunning ship models, full size boats and find out about river wildlife including a real tarantula.

Turbinia: Built on the Tyne by Charles parson in 1894, to test and demonstrate the power of the steam turbine.  In 1887 she was the fastest ship in the world, now she takes centre stage at Discovery Museum.

Tyneside Challenge: Explore the region’s rich history of scientific invention and industrial activity
