Newcastle Puppetry Festival

About

Moving Parts is a brand new performance and training festival situated in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, focussing on puppetry, mask, stop-animation and object manipulation. Spanning six days across five venues, the ambitious event is geared to providing inspiring visual theatre experiences for adults, teens, children & families, as well as emerging artists and experienced practitioners.

With the aim of further enriching Newcastle's visual theatre scene and developing an audience for this unique artform in the North East, Moving Parts delivers a week-long programme including:

- Three large-scale productions at Northern Stage
- Cabaret, fringe shows and live music at the festival hub - Cobalt Studios, including exhibitions, cafe, bar and library
- Four diverse performance masterclasses at Space Six
- A six-day puppet making residency course at Newcastle College
- Children's puppetry at Ouseburn Farm, including shows and workshops
- Puppetry and stop-animation short and feature length films
- Four brand new commissions
- Talks and networking events, including Meet the Practitioner series and Puppeteers UK Networking Meeting
- A Puppetry Research Conference and open call for papers
- An Education Project pairing design and drama students from Newcastle College with puppeteer Alison McGowan to produce a piece for the festival
- Outdoor performances and walkabout, including a partnership with Circus Central's regional youth circus
- Two bursary positions for North East based emerging artists within making and performance
- Three nationwide competitions spanning stop-animation, automata and children's colouring
- Puppetry Open Mic Night where performers can demonstrate their skills
- Regional community engagement from Berwick to Redcar, including partnership with Crisis to deliver workshops and opportunities for beneficiaries.

Guide Prices

Training: £120 - £360 (days of workshops/training vary)
Shows: £5 - £10 (dependant on shows)
Kids: some FREE, some cost between £4 - £6
Films: Some FREE, Pay-What-You-Feel and one charge (see website)
