Mouth of the Tyne Festival 2020

The Mouth of the Tyne Festival returns this summer with spectacular live music at Tynemouth Priory & Castle, special shows at Playhouse Whitley Bay, arts activities at Tynemouth Station and free street entertainment.

Tynemouth Priory & Castle

Friday 10 July 2015 - Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott with special guests I Am Kloot

Performing together again Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott will bring songs from their new Top 3 album What Have We Become and a massive back catalogue of Beautiful South and Housemartins tunes. Manchester band I Am Kloot are Mercury Prize nominees and have 7 studio albums to their name since forming in 1999. With a new live album out in April and a new recording on the horizon for 2016, we're thrilled to welcome them as special guests of Paul and Jacqui at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival.

Saturday 11 July 2015 - The Specials with very special guest Roots Manuva

The Specials transformed British pop in the late Seventies and early Eighties, mixing ska with punk and humour. Since reforming in 2008, the band has enjoyed sell-out tours all over the world and remain one of the most distinctive British bands performing today with infectious energy and an amazing following. British hip hop artist Roots Manuva has been announced as very special guest of The Specials for their Mouth of the Tyne Festival show. The South London rapper is a MOBO Award Winner and Mercury Music Prize nominee and is considered one of the most exciting, multi-faceted lyricists and musicians working in the UK today.

Sunday afternoon in the Priory - 12 July - Motown legends Martha Reeves and the Vandellas

What a line-up for a lazy day in the stunning Priory and Castle with family and friends! Motown legends Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, 80's chart regulars The Christians, Acid Jazz funksters James Taylor Quartet, Ben Ottewell from Gomez plus North East new-folk pop group Kosoti and Whitley Bay singer songwriter Olivia Devine.

Playhouse Whitley Bay

Wednesday 8 July  - Rufus Wainwright

The internationally-renowned singer, who Sir Elton John calls 'the greatest songwriter on the planet', will play the Playhouse Whitley Bay on July 8.

Thursday 9 July - Lisbon

Whitley Bay's own Lisbon play a homecoming show hot on the heels of a fantastic 2014 that saw them make the Radio 1 playlist with their song Blue Love.

Friday 10 July - Jack Savoretti

Mouth of the Tyne Festival is thrilled to bring Italian English singer-songwriter Jack Savoretti to the Playhouse. His unique raspy vocals and memorable melodies make him one of the hottest tickets around - catch him while you can! Support comes from Gizmo Varillas

There will also be a special pageant involving local dance groups and children from the borough’s schools. The pageant will take place at 11.15am on Saturday 11 July starting at Kings Priory.

Tynemouth Station will once again be buzzing with activity as ‘Platform’ – an energetic programme of dance and arts attractions – brings the concourses to life and complements the lively weekend market.

The Mouth of the Tyne Festival is organised by North Tyneside Council and is supported by Port of Tyne, Kier and Tyne Met College.
