Girl Shy

About

St Mary's Heritage Centre with Side by Side Arts are proud to present the Gateshead Silent Film Festival. Two nights of silent movies accompanied by 'live' piano music, from an era when the liquor was cold and the piano hot! Join us as we take you back in time to the 1920s where CGI was not invented, actors performed their own stunts and the only sound came from the whirr of the reel and the tinkling of the ivories. Each film will be accompanied live on piano by Side by Side Arts very own Stuart Angus.

Friday night is 'Horror' night showing the 1925 seminal American silent horror 'Phantom of the Opera'. Early arrivals will find Scream for Pizza on site from 7pm with a range of their ghoulishly gorgeous fresh made pizzas.

On Saturday we have a tea time special at 5pm for young silent film lovers with the 'Family Films Funny Bones Hour' showing a mix of silent funnies from a by-gone era. Scream for Pizza will be back Saturday night between 6pm and 8pm before the evening feature film, the classic Harold Lloyd comedy 'Girl Shy', finishing the evening with chance to enjoy the bar and perhaps dance to a 1920's to 40's swing and jive style sound track.
