Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde

About

Side by Side Arts are proud to present at St Mary's Heritage Centre, the Gateshead Silent Film Festival 2020.

A selection of silent movies accompanied by 'live' piano music, celebrating an era when the liquor was cold and the piano hot! Join us as we take you back in time to the 1920s where CGI was not invented, actors performed their own stunts and the only sound came from the whirr of the reel and the tinkling of the ivories. Our evening will begin with a pre 1918 Charlie Chaplin comedy short followed by an interval where Scream for Pizza will be on hand with a selection of their amazing pizzas to buy. For the main event we present the classic silent horror Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, released in 1921. Starring John Barrymore with leading lady Nita Naldi whose sensual portrayal of Miss Gina arouses the passions of Dr Jekyll and sets him on a quest to separate man's sanity and sinful sides. His experiments succeed and his evil alter ego, Mr Hyde is created. Hosted in the Gothic setting of St Mary's Heritage Centre, with a live accompaniment on piano by our very own Stuart Angus. Doors open at 7pm for Scream for Pizza and bar First showing 8pm. Approximate finish 10.30pm. Bar closes at 11pm.
