Gateshead Family Sculpture Day: Hammers, Wood, Nails, Make things!

Join us for this fantastic annual, family event of creating - a great day out for all ages in The Grove (near the bandstand) at Saltwell Park. We need you to get designing, building, banging, sawing and transforming all our wood into your own artworks.

This year’s theme is Games so you could build a giant chess piece, recreate your favourite board game or arcade game character. Get creative and show us which games you love. We’ll have tonnes of wood, tools and all the nails you need with expert artists on hand to give you inspiration and get you started.

Glaze your own Raku Tile to take home with Muddy Fingers Pottery and get those hammers tapping in rhythm to live music by local bands.

Sculpture Day 2016 concludes our Sculpture Thirty Festival programme, celebrating 30 years of Gateshead’s Family Sculpture Day and Public Art Programme. Look out for our September Artist of the Month, Neil Canavan’s new temporary artwork ‘Juggernaut’ being shown at the event.

Entry is free but there’s a small charge for tool hire, nails and Raku pottery. Please bring along your own hammers and lots of ideas.
