The Cyclone Festival of Cycling will once again attract thousands of cyclists and spectators to the North East as it returns for its twelfth edition on 28th June - 1st July 2018. This year it also incorporates the British Cycling National Road and Time Trial Championships.

The Cyclone Festival Of Cycling: 28 June - 1 July 2018

The Cyclone Festival of Cycling was created in 2007 to encourage as many people as possible to get out on their bikes, get fitter and enjoy the countryside. It is a multi faceted event designed to cater for the needs of competitive and none competitive cyclists. There are events to meet the needs of all who wish to compete or just ride for pleasure as well as allowing spectators to see some of the best riders in the World in action.

Thursday 28 June: National TT Championships This is the opening event of the four-day Cyclone Festival of Cycling taking place at Kirkley Hall

Friday 29 June: Tyne 6 Bridges A leisurely ride along the historic banks of the Tyne with family and friends. For all abilities along Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside

Saturday 30 June: Cyclone Challenge Rides With four beautiful and varied routes - 34, 64, 90 and 106 miles - the Cyclone Challenge is one the great events of the UK cycling calendar. It's a “must-do” ride for cyclists of all abilities and ages.

Sunday 1 July: National Road Race Championships This is the closing event of the four-day Cyclone Festival of Cycling. The best male and female riders in the country will compete to be the National Champion is Senior and Under-23 categories.

Since the inception of the event in 2007 participant numbers have quadrupled and over £2.5M has been raised for various charities. It is also estimated by Northumbria Tourism that the event generates over £1.5M pa for the local economy. The event is now one of the biggest and possibly the biggest event of it's type and attracts riders and participants from all over the World. The 2011 edition of the event hosted the British National Road Race Championships. The National Championships, both Road and Time Trial, return for 2018.
