The Morritt won ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ (alongside Seaham Hall) in the 2015 awards. We spoke to them to find out a little more about their experience.

Why did you enter the North East England Tourism Awards?
We feel that our hotel and spa is a very special place to both work and visit whether it is to stay, to dine, to celebrate or for corporate meetings – we believe it’s uniqueness makes is stand out as an award winning venue.

What did it feel like to win?
It was a great honor to win especially up against some other fantastic small hotels in the region,

What impact has it had on your business?
Winning opened up some fantastic PR opportunities for us right across the region and beyond.  For our staff who make the hotel and spa a winning combination, there has been a great sense of pride and increase in staff morale to be affiliated to this award.

In your opinion, how important are the North East England Tourism Awards?
As industry recognized awards, they are key in showcasing our wonderful region, what it has to offer and the range of fantastic locations to stay and visit.

Why do you think other businesses should apply?
The application process gives you the chance to take a good fresh look as to how your business is operating, how it can improve and grow and also stepping back and understanding your guest’s perception of the property.  It’s a rewarding exercise and comes with some great PR opportunities.

Will you be entering again this year?
We will – as the hotel is now under new ownership, we have made some changes and improvements that will greatly enhance an already wonderful destination.
