Case study: Large Visitor Attraction of the Year - Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children's Books

21st July 2016

Categories: NETA - blog

Seven Stories is the National home of children’s books. The only place of its kind in Britain, the centre is dedicated to the art of children’s books and the joy of reading, and one of just a few such places in the world. Their aim is to inspire children and grown-ups to be curious, imaginative and creative.

Housed in a converted Victorian warehouse in Newcastle upon Tyne, the centre is visited by 150,000 people every year and won ‘Large Visitor Attraction of the Year’ (alongside Beamish) in the 2015 awards. We spoke to the team about their experience and what winning the North East England Tourism Award meant to them.

Why did you enter the North East England Tourism Awards?
“We entered because we are proud of our work and achievements.”

What did it feel like to win?
“Everyone at Seven Stories was delighted when we won. To be recognised for our work in our region amongst all of the other outstanding venues is really rewarding.”

What impact has winning had on your business?
“It helped to raise our profile in the region and we are proud to include the award when reporting back to our stakeholder, partners and supporters about our achievements.”

In your opinion, how important are the North East England Tourism Awards?
“Any award that champions the importance and impact of tourism in our region is a good thing. The North East has a fantastic and diverse range of venues and businesses which, as well as being enjoyed by the people of our region, welcome thousands of national and international visitors.”

Why do you think other businesses should apply?
“I would encourage any business in the North East to apply, its great recognition, it helps to raise your profile and you get the opportunity to network with and be inspired by other businesses also nominated.”

Seven Stories plan to enter the 2016 awards. We look forward to seeing their application and what the future holds for them.
