St James’ Park is a unique and iconic venue home to Newcastle United Football Club (NUFC). Visible from almost every vantage point across the city, St James’ Park is known as the ‘third cathedral’. Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events is the catering partner for NUFC, managing conferencing and events at the stadium on match and non-match days.

NUFC & Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events were joint winners (alongside Sage Gateshead & Gateshead Old Town Hall) for the ‘Access for All Tourism Award’ in 2015. The team endeavour to provide equal services to all of their visitors and ensure that all areas of their stadium are accessible for disabled visitors. The Club is also proud to support the Newcastle United Disabled Supporters Association (NUDSA), which was formed in 1988 to improve facilities and services on offer to disabled supporters of Newcastle United.

Speaking about their win, the team at NUFC & Sodexo Prestige said: “this award was very important to us as considerable thought and investment has gone into ensuring the stadium and the events we hold here are as accessible as possible. It was a great boost to achieve recognition of all our hard work and commitment.”

When asked why they chose to enter the awards the team responded saying: “we feel the awards play a crucial role in showcasing the quality and variety of venues on offer in the region and attracting inward investment to the hospitality sector in the North East. St James’ Park is key to the economy and footfall of Newcastle and these awards give us the opportunity to show why it is popular, not just with football fans, but with the wider public.”

NUFC & Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events have told us they will “absolutely” be entering next year and think other businesses should apply as “they have nothing to lose and everything to gain” going on to say “they shine a spotlight on the region and on the businesses at the heart of the tourism industry and that is extremely important. The North East has a great deal to shout about and awards such as this help make our voices heard.”
