Milkwellburn Wood Nature Reserve

About

Milkwellburn Wood, near Blackhall Mill features an excellent network of surfaced tracks within the woodland providing access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Currently undergoing a restoration project that aims to gradually remove the conifers in order for the native woodland to re-establish itself, the area has already been improved for wildlife.

Interesting species seen as a result include tawny owl, woodcock, sparrow hawk, blackcap, garden warbler, tree pipit and willow warbler. Buzzards and red kites meanwhile have also been seen circulating the sky overheard. In the warmer months, the ground flora abounds with colour and scents including the light glow of primrose and rich purple of bluebell while lady fern delivers a prehistoric feel.

Enjoy fresh winter air, crispy autumnal leaves that scatter the floor or the vibrant colours of spring.
