The Laing Art Gallery is always worth a visit for its permanent collection which includes John Martin's breathtaking ‘The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah’ and William Holman Hunt's poignant painting of ‘Isabella and the Pot of Basil’, whilst The Biscuit Factory, the UK’s biggest commercial gallery, is the perfect place to start or expand your collection.
History is brought to life at Beamish Museum where visitors can step back in time and see what life was like in the North East during the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods follow that with a visit to Segedunum where you can travel even further back in time to get a taste of life as a Roman!
The Victoria Tunnel runs beneath the city from the Town Moor down to the Tyne. The tunnel is open all year round to the public for guided tours which include fantastic sound and visual effects.
