Gardens include formal topiary, wild flower meadow, wildflower meadow a railway garden with the Bowes Railway path only a couple of hundred yards up the hill with Tanfield Railway a 20 minute walk to the west.

The nursery sells a huge range of hardy herbaceous plants produced by traditional methods by plants displayed in the gardens, whilst the coffee shop is the perfect place to unwind with a drink and a bite to eat on the terrace.  The Potting Shed Gift Shop stocks quirky greeting cards and crafts by local artists.
