The indoor Grainger Market is one of Newcastle's oldest establishments and has been home to some of the regions' finest traders for over 180 years. From butchers, grocers, fishmongers and bakeries to trendy patisseries, creperies and even a Chinese dumpling shop, it's one of the best places to pick up delicious, artisan food, locally sourced ingredients, vintage clothing and gifts.
Alternatively, venture further afield to the stunning North East coastline to visit the famous Tynemouth Market. Taking place every Saturday and Sunday beneath the Victorian glass canopies of Tynemouth Metro Station, there are over 150 stalls to browse with homemade goods, secondhand books, vintage clothing, antiques and local artwork.
Why not head down to the bustling Sunday Quayside Market which takes place each week along the banks of the River Tyne? This iconic market should be part of any weekend visit to Newcastle, as street food vendors and stalls gather on the riverside to sell everything from gifts and toys to crafts and luxury confectionery. For the local vibe, head to the Low Fell Food Market in Saltwell Park or the monthly Jesmond Food Market along picturesque Armstrong Bridge, for fresh produce and street food.
