We’re not short of fantastic coffee shops in NewcastleGateshead...

... whether you want to relax with a latte and a good book on a Sunday afternoon, catch up with friends or grab your caffeine fix with an Italian espresso.

If you're hopping off the train at Newcastle Central Station then make Pink Lane Coffee your first stop. Over the road from the station, it is one of the most stylish coffee houses around and prides itself on high quality coffee, sourced from all across the globe and roasted in-house.

If an Instagram worthy cup of coffee is your kind of thing then look no further than  Great British Cupcakery on Newcastle Quayside, which serves up a deliciously decadent pink latte, perfectly complementing their extensive selection of cupcakes and sweet treats. Wander along the Quayside towards Gateshead Millennium Bridge and you'll be ready for more coffee, this time from stylish new addition The Hooch which offers sweeping views of the Quayside if you need to rest your legs.

Keep on strolling along the Quayside towards Ouseburn and you will discover The Cycle Hub Café which provides a popular pit stop for cyclists and walkers alike with plenty of outdoor seating on the riverside. At the opposite end of the River Tyne past the High Level Bridge and beyond, The Staiths Café in Gateshead is also gathering momentum as a coffee hot spot as well as its near neighbour Backyard Bike Shop under the Tyne Bridge on Gateshead Quayside where you can get your hands on a matcha latte, flat white or bikers brew to enjoy with views of the river.

For those who like their coffee with character, Blake’s Coffee House in Newcastle city centre is an old favourite for visitors enjoying a spot of retail therapy or try Flat Caps Coffee for an informal and cosy catch up. Dog lovers can enjoy a coffee shop with a difference in Newcastle at Dog and Scone, where you can sip your hot drink whilst you pet their furry residents.

Have a nosy in Newcastle's Grainger Market to find coffee shops such as Pet Lamb Patisserie and pair your hot drink with a large slab of brownie or potter along the cobbles of High Bridge Street to pick up a takeaway coffee from Laneway & Co. Shopping is thirsty work so take a break from your trip to Newcastle city centre and grab a coffee to go or pull up a chair at Olive & Bean and indulge in a little Afternoon Tea while you're there!

Heaton, a suburb on the edge of Newcastle city centre, is a mecca for independent coffee shops making it a must-visit district to find the best in café culture. Try Brew & Bite, Heaton Perk, Shoe Tree Cafe and Estate Tea Co. in Heaton whilst Arlo, 1901 Bistro and Cake Stories in nearby Jesmond are perfect cafes to grab a spot of lunch or indulgent cake with a tall macchiato or syrupy latte.
