Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea in Newcastle and Gateshead

There are fewer indulgent ways to spend an afternoon than enjoying a quintessentially English afternoon tea, and in Newcastle and Gateshead there are plenty of elegant and welcoming afternoon tea venues to choose from. Whether you're treating your mum, celebrating with friends or just want to spend a Sunday afternoon with plenty of cakes and tea (or something a little more bubbly) to wash them down with, here are our favourite Gateshead and Newcastle afternoon teas.

In Newcastle City Centre, you'll find a fabulous afternoon tea and champagne afternoon tea at Browns Bar & Brasserie where we have it on good authority that the salted caramel profiteroles are rather special. The Vermont Hotel's Traditional Afternoon Tea proudly includes local Rington's tea, which tastes even better when enjoyed in their sophisticated 1930s dining room which looks out onto the Castle, and Cafe 21 at Fenwick offers a chic break from your shopping, with a choice of afternoon teas to suit every budget. For an afternoon tea with a quirky touch, how about afternoon tea at the beautiful Tyneside Cinema before a film?

On Newcastle's Quayside, afternoon tea venues don't come much cuter than the Great British Cupcakery, a family-run bakehouse where the cakes are simply works of art, their afternoon teas are no exception. Nearby in the up-and-coming Ouseburn Valley, the stunning Hotel Du Vin's afternoon teas are completed by their own range of bespoke tea blends, created exclusively for them by Twinings.

Just over the water in Gateshead, Six Restaurant at the Baltic offers afternoon tea with an artistic touch, as well as unbeatable views over the Tyne. The Hilton Newcastle Gateshead offers an impressive afternoon tea menu that even includes Gluten Free Afternoon tea, and a Healthy and Nutritious Afternoon Tea with guilt-free alternatives to the afternoon tea mainstays.

However, we can't talk about afternoon teas in Newcastle without mentioning Jesmond Dene House, arguably Newcastle's most beautiful venue in the heart of Jesmond, and where, according to many people, the best afternoon tea in Newcastle is served. Scones, macarons, cheesecakes and more; block out a few hours to enjoy yours, as you won't want to waste a crumb.
