Restaurants at the Coast

With so many activities on offer at the Coast, it can be easy to forget the fantastic food and drink hotspots the area has to offer.

No trip to the seaside would be complete without fish and chips, and the Coast definitely does not disappoint. From Marshall's in Tynemouth Village - world famous for being visited by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix during a trip to the North East - to Crusoe's on Longsand's beach, the critically renowned Riley's Fish Shack in King Edward's Bay, as well as The Old Boathouse in Amble, there's no shortage of cafes and restaurants serving this perennial British seaside classic.

For a fun, retro-style bite to eat, Kitscheners Vintage Cafe in the Green Ginger Arcade serves 1950s diner classics, including authentic milkshakes, mouth-watering homemade cakes and hot sandwiches.

Taste buds feeling a little more adventurous? The seaside resort of Whitley Bay is fast becoming foodie heaven, with trendy restaurants Kith and Kin, Omni and Elder and Wolf offering flavours from the Middle East, Asia and Australia, all served with a contemporary British twist.

If you have a sweet tooth and fancy a traditional seaside treat while staying at the Coast, nothing beats an ice cream on the beach. Di Meo's in Whitley Bay has won accolades for its Italian-style gelato. Alternatively, head up the road to Blyth to sample the array of flavours at family run ice cream parlour Ciccarelli - not to mention the dozens of ice cream vans you'll find up and down the Coast and well into Northumberland.

With such a wide selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants in the area, you'll be spoiled for choice when out for a quick bite, a beach picnic or a slap-up meal at the Coast.
