Events at the Coast

With so many events at the Coast, it's no surprise that it is one of the most popular visitor destinations in the North East. No visit to NewcastleGateshead is complete without a trip to the Coast, so be sure to check the seasonal events happening in the area during your stay to help you make the most of this stunning region.

Bookworms, foodies and collectors of all kinds will find an array of treasures at the weekly Tynemouth Market, held at Tynemouth Metro Station every Saturday and Sunday. From home-baked sweet treats to vintage clothing, books, records and antiques, there's something for everyone at this diverse and intriguing market.

The stunning and historic Tynemouth Priory and Castle hosts a number of events throughout the year, from concerts and historic re-enactments to film screenings. Fans of the spooky and supernatural should be sure to take part in one of the special Halloween-themed Scary Tales events at the Priory, which include ghost walks, magical storytelling and even murder mysteries, while the Tynemouth Food Festival also takes place here every summer.

Film fans will be thrilled to hear of the Whitley Bay Film Festival, which began in 2010 with a screening of - what else of course? - Jaws. Taking place across Whitley Bay every August, this community-run festival shows a range of indie hits, vintage gems and major blockbusters.

When the nights start to draw in and the weather turns chilly, there's nothing better than a traditional Bonfire Night. The annual firework display at The Links at Whitley Bay, which includes funfair rides and food stalls, makes for a great Autumn evening out for the entire family.
