Things to do on the Quayside

There's never a shortage of things to do on the Quayside. It's simply a case of figuring out where to start!

BALTIC Centre For Contemporary Art is one of the must-see sights in Newcastle, as it houses a number of exciting exhibitions from contemporary artists, photographers and designers from around the world. Here you can pick up a number of quirky keepsakes in BALTIC Gift Shop or unwind with a coffee at BALTIC Cafe. It is also home to SIX at BALTIC, one of Newcastle's best restaurants, which provides stunning views over the River Tyne.

Culture lovers will also love Sage Gateshead, which is impossible to miss as part of the Quayside skyline. This unusually shaped building, designed by architect Norman Foster in 2004, is a specially designed concert hall which has hosted a number of performances by a number of famous musicians, as well as orchestras and performance groups from around the world.

If you're keen to explore the social side of Newcastle and Gateshead, the Quayside is also a great place to start. The Quayside Market is the perfect place to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon, while those looking for something a little more adventurous can take a boat cruise down the Tyne, which will take you all the way to the edge of the North East coast and back.

There's also an abundance of places you can grab a bite and a pint at the end of a long day with a number of fantastic Quayside restaurants and pubs including The Bridge Tavern, brunch spot Quay Ingredient and the Arches as well as the Michelin star award-winning restaurant House Of Tides, if you really want to treat yourself.

Pick up toys and gifts in the boutique store 61side UpSide Down Presents, or enjoy a delicious slice of cake or gooey brownies from The Great British Cupcakery which is fast becoming known for its enormous Instragam-able milkshakes. Better still, it's easier than ever to get to the Quayside, thanks to the Quaylink bus service which runs from the centre of town, to both sides of the Tyne.

Or... you could just put your feet up and watch the world go by at the ever-popular Quayside Seaside which takes pride of place on the iconic stretch between Spring and Autumn every year. It's a perfect place for building sandcastles, eating your lunch during your busy working week or just watching the world go by.
