Quayside secondary NewcastleGateshead Quayside

The Quayside is a must-visit place for anyone visiting NewcastleGateshead.

Flanking both sides of the River Tyne, Quayside is a fantastic place for scenic strolls and bike rides, a spot of sightseeing or a meal at one of the top restaurants on NewcastleGateshead Quayside. As night time approaches, choose from vibrant Quayside bars where you can sip cocktails and admire great views.

In the past, the Quayside played a central part of Newcastle's industrial history and heritage, serving as a commercial dockside. Coal was also ferried down to the Quayside via the Victoria Tunnels, which are now a popular tourist attraction, while factories such as the Baltic Flour Mill and Hoults Yard pottery, which have both since been transformed, flourished nearby at Gateshead Quays and Ouseburn. After much of the industry moved on, the area underwent a huge regeneration in the early 2000s, and has since become a hub of arts and culture for the North East, as well as a home to many of the region's best bars and pubs.

Today, a walk along NewcastleGateshead Quayside will present you with spectacular views of seven of the region’s most famous bridges, including the iconic Tyne Bridge and ultra-modern Gateshead Millennium Bridge. You can also check out live music and performances at Sage Gateshead or discover the latest exhibitions at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art before stopping off for a bite to eat and craft beer at By The River Brew Co nestled under the Tyne Bridge.

The Quayside Market which takes place every Sunday has an ever-increasing number of stalls from local creators and traders selling gifts and souvenirs as well as tasty treats and street food.

It’s easy to explore the Quayside by foot, on two wheels or hop on the Quaylink bus which will take you wherever you need to go!
