Restaurants in Ouseburn

With the Ouseburn area home to a creative community of artists, musicians and designers, and named in The Sunday Times annual rundown of the most desirable places to live, it's no surprise that new and exciting restaurants are springing up.

If you're looking for fantastic food in grand environs, Hotel du Vin & Bistro serves classic British dishes, as well as those with a French flair, and is housed inside one of Ouseburn's finest hotels. The extensive wine list and expert sommeliers ensure you won't be disappointed by this fine dining experience. For Sunday lunch with a Continental twist, try Hotel du Vin's sumptuous French Market Table, offering fresh seafood, charcuterie, salads and home-baked breads.

Another Ouseburn favourite to have received accolades from The Good Food Guide is the Cook House, which also featured in Michelin-star chef Michel Roux Jr’s Hidden Restaurants series for Channel 4 and was named Best Cheap Eat in the North last year by Observer Food Monthly. Join adventurous food blogger Anna Hedworth as she whips up a delicious breakfast, lunch or evening meal using locally sourced produce.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, then you’re in for a treat in Ouseburn. Dreamworld Patisserie offers up one of Newcastle’s best afternoon teas, or take your pick from irresistible chocolate eclairs, dainty layered cakes and mouth-watering meringues. Nearby, the historic Ship Inn serves vegan food inspired by classic pub fayre and modern flavours, and is dog friendly, perfect for stopping off with your four-legged friend.

Visit the north east’s first Carbon Free Dining Experience at ARCH 2 Brewpub and Kitchen, a converted old tyre garage which now hosts a micro-brewery, Indian street kitchen and undercover beer garden. Run by father and son team Leo and Mike Bell, there’s no better way to dine out and make a difference.

Head along the Ouseburn to find The Tyne Bar tucked under the arch of the bridge. This historic pub hosts regular barbecues on the outdoor deck, which is decked out with a fabulously incongruous disco ball!
