Events in Ouseburn

Ouseburn is one of the most creatively vibrant and cosmopolitan areas of NewcastleGateshead, with a variety of interesting, fun and exciting events held in Ouseburn throughout the year.

Take a fascinating guided tour through Ouseburn every Saturday morning to find out more about the area's history.

Families looking for a fun-filled summer day out should check out Ouseburn Farm and Seven Stories, The National Centre for Childrens Books... both venues host regular events and activities to keep all ages entertained. The annual Ouseburn Festival is a free event held every July that celebrates all that Ouseburn has to offer. From Victoria Tunnel tours to pony rides and the famous Rubber Duck Race at The Cluny, this community-run festival is perfect for visitors of all ages.

Art-lovers should make the most of The Late Shows, a free, public programme of events and exhibitions, celebrating Ouseburn's growing artistic community. Running for over a decade, The Late Shows see museums, galleries and exhibitions stay open late into the evening, with activities and events that allow visitors to get a real feel of the local cultural scene. Past programmes have included treasure trials, interactive art, DJ nights, behind the scenes tours and talks by local artists. Held annually every May, The Late Shows are a must-see for any art and culture buffs visiting the area.

Another major art and culture event in Ouseburn is the annual Open Studios, held in November every year, with a smaller Spring Open Studios taking place every March. This celebration of the local creative scene sees hundreds of artists open up their studios to the public, giving visitors the chance to see the amazing works and projects being created in Ouseburn. Local stalwarts, including The Biscuit Factory and Northern Print often hold public events in tandem with Open Studios, encouraging families to come and take part in immersive art experiences, events and workshops. Check out The Biscuit Factory and Northern Print for year-round exhibitions and events.

Also held in November are the annual Ouseburn Fireworks, held at the City Stadium on Warwick Street to celebrate Bonfire Night. Recently celebrating its 30th anniversary, the firework display is run by the Ouseburn Community Centre, giving a real local feel to this annual event.
