Delegate experiences

At NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, we've always thought that NewcastleGateshead offers one of the best delegate experiences around. We have an exciting choice of places to meet, from one of the world’s finest music centres to an art deco cinema and one of the world's largest tree houses. And with so many unique experiences on offer to create an exciting social programme, along with the famously warm Geordie welcome that’s always on offer, you can be sure that delegates will have a great time in NewcastleGateshead.

There are loads of brilliant things for your delegates to experience in NewcastleGateshead. We think these ideas are champion and a great place to start:

Energise your delegates on Life Science Centre's 4D motion ride or experience an immersive journey through space in its planetarium – it's the North's biggest.

At Life Science Centre delegates can also bring out their inner alchemist a 'Science of Cocktails' workshop (of course they'll get to sample their experiment) or they can play around with DNA at a genetic engineering masterclass.

To give your delegates a memorable experience they won’t forget, you can arrange to tilt the famous Gateshead Millennium Bridge to celebrate your event – you can even have the structure washed in your corporate or association colours.

Sage Gateshead, the iconic international home for music set on the Gateshead Quays, can arrange a range of bespoke musical sessions for conferences, from banging steel drums to playing the fiddle or ukulele.

For a unique drinks reception, Newcastle Castle – the site of the 'new castle' that gave the city its name – can host an event on its rooftop at sundown, with spectacular panoramic views of the Quayside.

Step back in time at Beamish, the Living Museum of the North, where delegates can immerse themselves in the region’s history and you could even host a fish and chips supper at a coal-fired fish and chip shop, part of the recreated Edwardian pit village in the open-air museum.

Delegates can enjoy a unique 'dinner with Earl Grey' at The Botanist, where they first climb to the top of the iconic Grey’s Monument, which has one of the city’s best-kept secret viewpoints at the top, and then tuck into a three-course dinner at the luxurious bar and restaurant with its superb range of botanical cocktails.

At Tyneside Cinema, the finest surviving newsreel cinema in Britain, you can take advantage of exclusive hire to arrange a screening of your choice, or delegates can take a tour of the art-deco cinema.

Arrange for your delegates to kick back and relax in one of the region's luxury spas. At Rockliffe Hall, spa butlers are on hand to keep you refreshed at its award-winning spa, while Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa has one of the UK’s largest hydrotherapy pools.

For one of the country’s most unique settings for a conference dinner, try The Treehouse at The Alnwick Garden, which offers locally-sourced fine-dining in one of the world's largest tree houses.

Meanwhile, at neighbouring Alnwick Castle, a.k.a Hogwarts from the Harry Potter films, delegates can give broomstick training a go, guided by the resident wizarding professors on the very spot where Harry Potter had his first flying lesson!

Blackfriars is the UK's oldest dining hall, established in 1239 as a Dominican friary, which can offer an authentic medieval banquet for your delegates or hosts a range of cookery workshops for a hands-on activity for delegates.

A roof top tour of Newcastle United’s home ground, St. James' Park, is a unique way to show delegates the famous sights of NewcastleGateshead while learning all about the football club and its history along the way.

National Glass Centre hosts bespoke glass-blowing workshops where delegates can watch the experts in a glass-blowing demonstration and can even get hands-on to create their very own work of art in glass.

For more adventurous delegates, you can consider arranging a tree-top adventure on a high ropes course at Beamish Wild at Beamish Hall or Go Ape at Matfen Hall.

An indoors alternative would be for delegates to climb the bouldering walls at Climb Newcastle, which offers facilities for climbers at every level and can host lessons as part of your conference programme.

At the boutique bowling venue, Lane7, you could arrange an informal conference dinner with the venue's sourdough pizza menu, and then afterwards delegtaes could try their hand at ten-pin bowling, karaoke or ping-pong - an fun and informal way to network!

Mr Mulligan's Space Golf is a new venue that offers an 'out of this world' adventure golf experience. Immerse your delegates in a journey through space on the three nine-hole golf courses. They can also refuel in the restaurant and enjoy some cosmic cocktails to complete the experience.
