British Academy of Management

The British Academy of Management (BAM), is the leading authority in the academic field of management in the UK, supporting and representing a community of scholars and engaging with international peers.

Their largest conference to date took place at Newcastle University from 6th – 8th September, hosting 900 delegates from over 50 countries.

The three day conference had a packed programme with experts from around the world speaking at the event. A panel of industry leaders, Peter Cheese, Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Ann Francke, CEO of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), Professor Geoffrey Wood, Dean of University of Essex and Dr Michael Lloyd, Global Policy Institute, London Metropolitan University launched the conference during the Opening Plenary – chaired by Professor Nic Beech, Chair of the British Academy of Management.

Over 700 research papers among 25 research disciplines have been presented allowing academics to showcase their research and further develop research ideas through discussion and feedback from experienced colleagues.

Social Programme
A gala dinner took place at Newcastle Civic Centre on the 7th September with over 400 delegates attending the social highlight of the conference.

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau support
NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau helped to relieve the pressure on the conference organisers by managing the accommodation allocation for the 900 delegates. The Convention Bureau’s local relationships enabled them to secure discounted rates from a variety of hotels across the city centre. In addition the team created a dedicated booking website for BAM’s delegates, obtained delegate discounts for local eateries and provided a welcome service at Newcastle Central Station.
