Venue: Slaley Hall
Social programme: Dinners, live band entertainment, and enjoyment of Slaley Hall’s leisure facilities and gardens.

Background:
Over 100 international experts with unique clinical, scientific and commercial perspectives on healthy ageing headed to the North East in October for the 6th Annual Alliance for Healthy Aging Conference: Interventions to Slow Down Aging.

The meeting fostered research collaborations and acted as a springboard for new research grants and directions, and by bringing together an expert and interdisciplinary panel with unique clinical, scientific, and commercial perspectives the meeting acted to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries to clinical practice.

Program topics included: Extending healthspan in model organism – paradigms for human interventions; Validating interventions to prolong median healthspan – a pathway towards ‘social biogerontology’; Extending cognitive health; and Possibilities for and limitations to human intervention trials.

Social programme:
The social programme comprised of dinners and evening entertainment from a live band where delegates danced the night away. Delegates were also able to make the most of Slaley Hall’s leisure facilities and beautiful gardens.

Convention Bureau support:
NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau supported in finding the right venue for the conference and securing delegate accommodation. In addition we provided a delegate welcome at Newcastle International Airport directing delegates towards their transfer. During the event one of the NewcastleGateshead Initiative team attended the event to provide information about the local area as well as additional suggestions for leisure activities during the event.

Organiser testimonial:
Sharon Denley at Newcastle University Institute for Ageing, said: “We would like to thank NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau and your co-workers for the assistance given in making the 6th Annual Alliance for healthy Aging Conference such a success. The team was professional and dedicated throughout, from the excellent delegate welcome at Newcastle International Airport to the knowledge and advice given about the region to our delegates during the event.

“NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau does a tremendous job for the region and we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending its services to anyone wishing to organise an event.”
