The British International Studies Association (BISA) has confirmed NewcastleGateshead will be the host destination for its 45th annual conference 17 - 19 June 2020.

Taking place in Newcastle’s Civic Centre, a Grade II listed building, with a reception being held at Wylam Brewery, the conference is set to attract up to 1,000 delegates from around the globe and will be co-hosted by the BISA local organising committee from Newcastle University’s School of Geography, Politics and Sociology.

Founded in 1975, BISA is the leading organisation for researchers, policy makers, practitioners and students of International Studies in the United Kingdom.

Paul Szomoru, Director of Business Events at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “We’re honoured to be part of BISA’s important celebration, and we know delegates will have an unforgettable experience here in NewcastleGateshead.

“Attracting a conference such as BISA to the region is testament to the great working partnership we have with Newcastle University, who’s conference team worked closely with the association to champion NewcatleGateshead.”

Juliet Dryden, Director of BISA, said: “NewcastleGateshead was an obvious choice for our 45th annual conference, we were very impressed with both the variety of venues available and the expertise of both the Newcastle University conference team and NewcastleGateshead’s convention bureau.

“We’re aiming for Newcastle 2020 to be our biggest and most ambitions conference to date with satellite events involving local leaders and the general community, school outreach events to promote the field of international studies and interesting panel of events bringing together a diverse range of people.  Although BISA is a learned society committed to enhancing scholarly debate, we aim to increase BISA’s output by offering something for everyone with an interest in international studies.
