Newcastle International Airport is proving just how well connected it is with the return of its direct United Airlines New York flight, as well as the launch of a brand new Stavanger flight with bmi regional. These join 80 destinations worldwide that the airport offers direct connections to.

The final preparations are underway ahead of the return of United Airlines’ service between Newcastle and New York/Newark, which commences 26 May 2016. As the countdown begins, thousands of business and leisure travellers have already booked on the service, which will operate six times a week. The route has returned for its second year after a successful launch in 2015.

With United’s impressive route network allowing over 300 onward connections from its Newark hub, the service will connect delegates from all over the USA with NewcastleGateshead and the North East of England.

John Irving, Business Development Director at Newcastle International Airport, said: “We are delighted the service will now run six days a week and passengers are making the most of United’s excellent route network to connect onto numerous further afield destinations.

“In addition to UK residents travelling on to North America for business or leisure, the service makes the North East of England much more accessible for inbound travel from the States.

“Work has also been done to promote the service across the North East, Cumbria and North Yorkshire through visits to travel agencies, advertising and through sponsorship deals within and outside the airport.”

“We are excited to return to Newcastle this summer,” said Bob Schumacher, United’s Managing Director Sales – U.K. and Ireland. “Our flights offer business and leisure travellers convenient access to New York City as well as connections across the Americas. Through our New York hub, we can connect our customers directly to over 100 great destinations including Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles.”

Meanwhile, bmi regional recently announced the launch of flights between Newcastle and Stavanger, Norway, which will take to the skies on 31 May 2016 and will go on sale from 29 April 2016.  The new route offers direct jet flights six times a week from Sunday to Friday from Newcastle to the major Norwegian city, which is both a major business destination due to the proximity of North Sea oil fields as well as a tourist destination with a charming old town.

Commenting on the route launch, Leon McQuaid, Aviation Development Manager Director at Newcastle International Airport, said: “We are delighted that bmi regional will be operating this new Stavanger service.  Norway is an important business and trade link for the North East as well as being a popular destination for leisure travellers. As well as anticipating further growth in outbound tourism we also expect this service to deliver a significant increase of inbound traffic to the region.”
