Categories: Convention Bureau latest news

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau will be joined by local businesses from across the North East to bring the region’s famous Geordie welcome to London from 2 – 3 March. Showcasing the best of what NewcastleGateshead has to offer the meetings and event industry, at one of the UK’s leading trade exhibitions, International Confex.

International Confex connects event organisers with an exciting line up of venues, destinations and event support services.

Paul Szomoru, Head of Business Tourism, said: “The meetings and events industry is worth an estimated £104m to the North East economy. International trade shows, such as Confex, gives us a platform to promote the fantastic and evolving offering of not only the region’s accommodation and venues but also the culture and buzz of the destination - maximizing the economic value of meetings and events to the region.

“We are delighted to again be joined by key venues, accommodation and support services from across the North East. Without their support it wouldn’t be possible for us to attend the show. We aim to demonstrate the combined dedicated approach we hold with our partners to provide organiser’s with the best experience when hosting events in the region.”

The local venues & suppliers who will be joining NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau at International Confex are:

• R&B Group
• Sage Gateshead
• Newcastle United Football Club
• Sunderland Association Football Club & Hilton Garden Inn
• Hilton NewcastleGateshead
• Mercure Newcastle County Hotel

Paul continued: “Confex is a key part of our annual calendar of events. There are always exciting new developments in the area, which is why we believe it is so important to continue to connect with existing contacts as well as building new connections.

“NewcastleGateshead is becoming increasingly known for its key sectors; Science & Healthcare, Offshore & Marine, and Tech & Innovation. Over the past year we’ve seen conferences such as the 6th Annual Alliance for Healthy Aging coming to the region because of our accolades and expertise. We also recently won Best Industry Partnership in the ABPCO awards in recognition of our strong working partnership with Newcastle University to bid for and support academic conferences; highlighting our strengths in this area.”

NewcastleGateshead’s new look Conferencing, Events & Accommodation Guide also launches to event planners at the show, having twice won the Meetings Industry Marketing Award for Best Brochure in the past.

The new guide includes the best of NewcastleGateshead’s venues, accommodation and services as well as information on transport and the best delegate experiences giving organisers all they need in one place.
