Over 100 international experts with unique clinical, scientific and commercial perspectives on healthy ageing will head to the North East in October 2015 to take part in a prestigious healthy ageing conference, secured with the help of NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau.

The 6th Annual Alliance for Healthy Ageing Conference: Interventions to Slow Down Ageing, will take place over five days at Slaley Hall, Hexham and is estimated to have a £220,000 economic impact for the region.

Paul Szomoru, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “Newcastle University is world-renowned for its excellence in ageing research. Its work is used to shape high level policy such as the Prime Minister’s 2012 Challenge on Dementia so it’s fitting that the Institute of Ageing will host the conference in Newcastle. We look forward to welcoming the delegates and demonstrating both the talents of our scientific researchers as well as the fantastic conference facilities and delegate experiences available across the region.”

Sharon Denley, Programme Manager at Newcastle University Institute for Ageing, added: “Newcastle University Institute for Ageing teamed up with Coimbra University to support the creation of a new Multidisciplinary Institute for Ageing at Coimbra, Portugal. The Alliance welcomed collaboration with Newcastle/Coimbra, which will host the 6th Annual Conference on “Interventions to Slow Down Ageing ”at Slaley Hall in the North of England.

“The meeting will foster research collaborations, act as a springboard for new research grants and directions, and accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries to clinical practice by bringing together experts from across the world. We approached NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau for assistance with the organisation of the conference and they have supported us enormously by helping to identify and secure a hotel that would meet the specific conference and accommodation requirements for its international delegates. This has resulted in an excellent conference package which will not only be exciting but will also showcase our organisation and the region.”
