Big investment in stylish refurbishment at The Malmaison Hotel, Newcastle

The Malmaison Hotel, Newcastle, has officially opened its brand new Chez Mal Bar & Brasserie after significant investment into the property.  A substantial refurbishment has been undertaken by the Malmaison including the bar, brasserie and bedrooms as well as the public areas of the hotel.  The Malmaison is renowned for being one of the most classically beautiful buildings on the Quayside and with the brasserie now at the front of the hotel, diners can enjoy unrivalled views across the River Tyne, Millennium Bridge and Tyne Bridges while enjoying a carefully crafted menu all cooked to order by the Mal's team of experienced chefs.  The Chez Mal Bar is located at the back of the hotel featuring ultra modern New York 'loft style' styling with VIP seating, open brickwork and stunning lighting.

The investment includes the upgrading of all 122 rooms and suites to an incredibly high standard.  Remodeled rooms feature iconic Pop Art, 42" smart televisions and enhanced desk areas and delightfully comfortable seating for guests to relax. The focal point of the bedrooms is the signature plush Malmaison bed with a luxurious handmade mattress, topper and monogrammed cushions.

The stylish Chez Mal Bar offers classic and unique cocktails from their Malchemy list with premium brand spirits and the Mal's renowned wine and Champagne list.  Craft beers play a significant role in the New York Fire Department inspired piping that frames the new look bar. The well stocked bar provides many craft beers on draught with ample bottled back up, and in keeping with the craft beer movement everything is served in specialist iced schooner measure glasses.  The decor includes distressed brick walls bedecked in quirky Pop Art mixed with classic French portraits of the original Chateau de Malmaison occupants Napoleon and Josephine! There are touches of opulence throughout, with comfy banquet seating and steel blue centre seating in high quality leathers, which ensures anyone dining can be tucked away or be at the centre of attention.

By day the picture windows bathe the brasserie in light, come dusk to night the atmosphere is classic moody Malmaison.  A private Mal dining room is also available and is perfect for meetings, entertaining and celebrating. The city can look forward to such offerings as ‘Thank Mal It’s Friday’ with signature cocktails and Champagnes on special offer,  plus a comfortable all day brunch on Sundays is perfect for a wind down after a long week at work.

General Manager Vincent Garrington returns to familiar territory having previously managed hotels, bars and restaurants across the region nearly a decade ago. Reflecting on this Vincent commented: “With new venues opening across the city it's great to have a new look Malmaison with a destination bar and brasserie at the heart of the city, with these simply incredible views across the river, Sage Gateshead, BALTIC and of course the iconic bridges."
