New spa developments at North East luxury country house hotels

5th February 2015

Major spa developments are underway at two of the region’s leading country house venues – Rockliffe Hall and Ramside Hall.

Five-star Rockliffe Hall, in Hurworth near Darlington, has announced major expansion plans for 2015 including a new ‘Spa Garden’ to further enhance its award-winning spa facilities.

Facilities at the Spa Garden will include two outdoor hot pools including an infinity edge hydrotherapy pool with massage features and a warm Jacuzzi, under-floor heated decking and lounging areas, a garden room with a traditional glass-fronted sauna cabin, fire pit, water feature, landscaped gardens with views across Rockliffe Hall’s grounds and heated relaxation loungers.

The new development is set to open in the autumn and work on the 200 meters square spa garden is now underway.

Rockliffe Hall’s spa has become one of the most successful in the UK and was recently the only spa in the North to receive a Good Spa Guide award – the ‘Best Spa for Sheer Luxury’. This latest award for Rockliffe Hall’s spa comes after a successful 2014 when it received the Good Spa Guide’s new accolade of ‘5 Bubble Luxury’ alongside just five other UK spas.

Warwick Brindle, chairman of Rockliffe Hall, said: “The investment marks the start of an exciting growth phase for our resort with big plans for the coming year as we continue to strive to increase both business and leisure tourism in the region.”

Meanwhile, Durham’s four-star country house hotel, Ramside Hall, has unveiled its plans for an ambitious £18m development which will see the creation of a state-of-the-art luxury spa and 47 new deluxe rooms.

The new spa at Ramside will open in spring 2015, with a range of facilities including a 25m long pool, hydrotherapy pool, saunas and a range of different steam rooms, as well as the creation of an outdoor balcony with an infinity pool spa, a Caldarium – a hot plunge pool – and a Rasul mud chamber.

It will also offer 12 therapy rooms, a gym, a dance studio and a hair salon, along with enhancing the hotel’s food operation with the addition of a new Asian style restaurant and bar.

The on-going development comes after a huge investment in the hotel’s golf facilities, with an additional championship 18-hole course created and unveiled earlier this year.

“This is a huge development for the hotel and will be a massive boost for the North East,” said Tim Boyd, General Manager at Ramside Hall Hotel.

“We’re creating an amazing state-of-the-art leisure facility which will be suited to everyone, from visitors who want to get fit and keep in shape to anyone who just wants some rest and relaxation.

“At the same time the addition of the extra rooms will give the hotel even more capacity to cope with leisure and business travellers.”
