This week, Sage Gateshead is marking its tenth birthday with a six-day festival called FUNFAIR. Last night, a party brought together hundreds of people who love the venue, with a fascinating line up that took in everything from local rockers Warm Digits to Royal Northern Sinfonia. Along with spectacular lighting and sound design and specially created catering, the night was a perfect example of what Sage Gateshead has to offer.

Anna Eyres, Head of Conferences & Events, said of the tenth birthday: “We’re proud to be celebrating our first decade as an international centre for conferencing and events. It has been an exciting journey and it continues to be a privilege to work with some truly brilliant clients from across the industry spectrum.

We have fantastic working relationships with countless regional clients, partners and suppliers all of whom help to support Sage Gateshead’s position as a driver for business tourism, contributing to a wider regional business impact of £283 million to the regional economy since our opening.”

One conference which has grown with Sage Gateshead, establishing its home in the North East is Thinking Digital which attracts national and international delegates. Herb Kim from Thinking Digital said:  “Over the past 8 years, the Thinking Digital Conference has grown from a small regional event to now being regularly described as 'the UK’s TED'. A huge part of our success has been down to the amazing Conference & Events and Technical teams at Sage Gateshead. Their prior planning, professionalism and execution under fire has helped make our event an international phenomenon.”

The venue regularly hosts a diverse range of association meetings such as the European Association for Paediatric Research and over the ten years, they have welcomed conferences including the three political party conferences, MS Life, British Council for Shopping Centres alongside vibrant corporate events with clients such as Brewin Dolphin, Emirates and BT.

It has recently been announced as the chosen venue for the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, which Sage Gateshead are very excited about - not only because they’re able to welcome peers from around the country but also because, as winners in some of the regional heats including gold in the ‘Access for All’ category, Sage Gateshead are working hard to hopefully continue to win more awards at the nationals.

Sarah Stewart, Chief Executive at destination management agency, NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “The conference and meetings industry in NewcastleGateshead is worth £77m to local economy, supporting around 3,500 jobs. Sage Gateshead has made an outstanding contribution to this success over the past decade, attracting millions of business and leisure tourists, enhancing our reputation across the world as a place that has fantastic conference facilities and the ability to stage unforgettable events. On behalf of everyone at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, I’d like to congratulate Sage Gateshead on what has been a fantastic decade and we look forward to building on this success with them in the coming years."
