Maps Festival is the little dash of colour, sparkle and creativity that will set you up with all the vibes you need for 2020. MAPS Festival is a must-do for families this February half term at venues across Newcastle and Gateshead. Get ready for Lip Sync Workshops, Lizzo Appreciation Society, playful protests and even a Womble Club!

Explore another world

Life Science Centre are going up, up and away with a rocket-fuelled extravaganza for February half term. Join the must-see attraction for a family day out and explore their brand new Space Zone too. Get your skates on and take a final spin on the outdoor ice rink before it closes for the season.

If you've ever wanted to add "Champion Puddle Jumper" to your CV - WWT Washington have just the thing. The Puddle Jumping Championships is a great event for anyone looking to get outdoors and bounce off some energy whatever your age or “jumping ability.” While you’re at WWT Washington, make sure to pop along to their Guide in a Hide events or take a Walk with a Warden to find out more about the wildlife on the reserve.

Make a difference at Seven Stories

Seven Stories is open every day during February half term and invite families to discover more about what they can do to help shape the world around them in a series of fun, interactive events. Enjoy themed activities all week and explore Seven Stories’ exhibitions, meet authors and illustrators, listen to a story and relax with a cup of tea. You can even join them to plant your own tree in the Ouseburn on Thursday 20 February (£5 per person) and help make the cultural hub even greener. There’s lots of family-friendly things to do in Ouseburn which makes it a great day out. Why not try something different while you’re there like bouldering at The Valley Climbing Centre?

Join artist Richard Bliss and get creating with colour, texture and words.  This is your chance to explore BALTIC’s brilliant exhibitions too - Animalesque and Play Rebellion (which closes on 23 February).

Enjoy some of the best family films on the big screen. The line-up includes Incredibles 2 (19 Feb), Toy Story 4 (21 Feb), Beauty and the Beast singalong (23 Feb), The Greatest Showman (23 Feb) and the first Harry Potter film (22 Feb) to name just a few. Tickets vary from completely free to £12 depending on whether you want to sit on a bench or snuggle around a firepit. Street food and snacks are on hand to keep you well fuelled during your movie watching.

Fire and Ice in Durham
