The Easter holidays have finally arrived and there are plenty of things to do in Newcastle, Gateshead and the North East to keep all bouncing bunnies busy! If you’re struggling to find activities to keep the children entertained over the Easter holidays then look no further.

Take a look at our quick round up of what's on over Easter for all ages across Newcastle Gateshead with a price tag to suit everyone. Enjoy a jam-packed Easter break with an assortment of Easter activities in a variety of venues.

Go on a Giant LEGO Brick Animal Trail this Easter and breathe in the spring air as you explore WWT Washington on your way around the trail. You can take part in LEGO workshops too.

Beamish is open throughout the Easter holidays with a full raft of activities

Head back to yesteryear for Easter Fun at Beamish Museum. It’s always lovely to wander the vast grounds and take part in activities along the way. Fans of Beamish Museum won’t want to miss the return of their annual Great North Steam Fair events the weekend before Easter.

Undergo an Easter bunny transformation before tucking into a tasty brunch or afternoon picnic at The Biscuit Factory on Easter Monday 22 April. Hop along for lots of Easter activities - this will be a delightful family day out.

Saturday 6 – Sunday 14 April

Moving Parts: Newcastle Puppetry Festival 2019 makes a comeback with a packed programme of workshops, masterclasses, parades and events. Be wowed by GIANT puppets in Newcastle city centre (Sat 6 – Sun 7 April), an Insect Marionette Circus at Seven Stories on Saturday 13 April and much more.

Open from 10am to 5.30pm daily, Alnwick Castle is one to add to the Easter holiday fun. From alchemy and archery to magic, mirth and mystery, prepare to be spellbound by Alnwick Castle. With activities for all ages, everyone can get involved, there will never be a dull moment at Alnwick Castle. Did you know, your day ticket to explore the historic (and award-winning) attraction can be used all year round?

Easter Sunday 21 April

Nothing says Easter... like a trip to the panto! Tyne Theatre & Opera House love a panto so much they've put one on for you on Easter Sunday and it is guaranteed family fun for the bank holiday. Join the boy who never grows up – Peter Pan – and take part in his adventures with Wendy, as they fly off to Neverland and fantastical characters on the way.

Good Friday 19 April

Enjoy the Bank Holiday at Newcastle Racecourse with an afternoon of Greatest Show themed family entertainment and top-quality horse racing. Kids entertainment will be available throughout the afternoon, with a number of stage circus shows and meet and greets with the circus cast.

Monday 8 - Saturday 20 April

Metrognomes to the rescue! Enjoy a free performance from intu Metrocentre’s much-loved characters as they learn more about the emergency services.

Seven Stories’ latest exhibition all about Elmer the Elephant and friends is well-worth a visit. Pop along and discover the Elmer’s multi-coloured world, take part in lively story times and get creative with hands-on activities throughout the school holidays.

Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children’s Books and Victoria Tunnel have teamed up for a fabulous event to celebrate 30 years of one of THE most popular children’s books, We’re Going On A Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.

  • Easter at Life Science Centre

Pop along to Life Science Centre during the Easter holidays to take part in an Easter trail around the science museum and watch some fascinating scientific chocolate demonstrations. Life Science Centre is always mega popular as it’s a brilliant attraction – take a look at their useful top tips about visiting during Easter.

Discovery Museum invite you along this Easter for an eggstravaganza of events and activities. Hunt the Clown Nose on a special trail, decorate an egg cup or create your own hatching egg.

Looking to while away your four-day Easter weekend? Get your gnashers around this. Battle of the Burger sees ten of the best burger vendors in the region serve up their patties for you to tuck into and pick your ultimate champion. Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome!

The Vermont Hotel have an event to keep everyone happy this Easter bank holiday weekend including Good Friday Fish supper (19th April), a special Easter Afternoon Tea for all the family on 20 & 21 April and something a little more sophisticated and a chance to unwind over the bank holiday weekend with a cold drink overlooking the spectacular Quayside on their Sky Lounge for just £10 per person (19 - 21 April).
