Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children’s Books: Secrets, Mystery and Adventure!

You’re promised a spiffing week of mystery and adventure at Seven Stories as they relive the wonderful world of Enid Blyton. There will be the usual lively storytime sessions as well as mysteries to solve, secret Art Club to join and even den-building. So let your imaginations fly and head to the National Centre for Children’s Books for a fun-packed adventure.

Northern Stage: The Owl and the Pussycat

Tue 13 – Sat 17 Feb

Northern Stage are well known for their lively, family-friendly performances and The Owl and the Pussycat promises to deliver once again. Expect a colourful, immersive experience using puppets and live music to bring the popular nursery rhyme to life.

Stephenson Railway Museum: Make and Take Thursday

Thu 15 Feb, 11am – 3pm drop in

All aboard at the Stephenson Railway Museum for hands-on craft activities all day. On Thursday 15 February, explore painting and printing techniques as you help to build a giant freight train. There are also freight and shunting demonstrations throughout the day in the Museum yard so this is a must-do for any keen trainspotters in the family.

Dusty at WWT Washington Puddle Jumping Championships Febraury Half Term

WWT Washington: Puddle Jumping Championships

If you've ever wanted to add "Champion Puddle Jumper" to your CV - WWT Washington have just the thing. This is a great event for anyone looking to get outdoors and bounce off some energy whatever your age or “jumping ability.” While you’re at WWT Washington, make sure to pop along to their Fabulous Flamingo Talks which happen daily or watch as the Otters have their lunch.

Admission applies but plan ahead and book online before you visit in order to save 10%.

Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth: Undersea Safari

You’re in for a wild, undersea adventure at Blue Reef Aquarium this February half term. Daily tours will run on the hour from 10am when knowledgeable guides will introduce you to exotic creatures from around the world. Watch the friendly seals play and feed every day at 12pm & 3pm. AND if you book admission online between 5 – 9 February, child tickets are just £1!

Make a day of it and explore the coast, take a bracing winter walk along Longsands with a well-earned stop off at many of the cosy cafes such as Crusoe’s and The View in Tynemouth or Peaches and Cream and The Boatyard at Cullercoats.

Fire and Ice in Durham

Friday 16th & Saturday 17th February

Our neighbours down in Durham will be hosting another spectacular Fire & Ice event this February Half Term. The icy trail lit by flaming beacons will bring to life much-loved literary characters.

Roman Quest at Chesters Roman Fort near Hexham

Enjoy a visit to one of the most historic sites in the region – Hadrian’s Wall at Chesters Roman Fort. Pick up a trail sheet from the visitor centre and then roam the ruins to solve clues and become a hotshot historian along the way.

Beamish Museum: Queens of the Machines

You don’t need us to tell you to visit Beamish Museum – it is a guaranteed great day out. This February half term, celebrate the amazing contribution hundreds of women made to the war effort during the First World War. There will be plenty of hands-on activities to get involved with all week. The popular outdoor ice rink will still be available for you to show off your skating skills.
