There's a jam-packed schedule of great events this weekend in NewcastleGateshead and for those who unfortunately didn't get tickets to 6 Music Festival, don't worry, we've highlighted the best of the rest across the Toon.

EAT! IN, Various locations

EAT! is back for its brand new winter edition and they've found some cool and cosy spots for you to EAT! IN around NewcastleGateshead. With everything from a roaring ‘20s party to a thought-provoking competition, they’re spanning time and taste to bring you the most convivial of festivals.

And you can join them this weekend for their launch event, Future City Future Chef, where they'll be answering some of the most intriguing questions like... What will you be eating in 20 years time? How will your food be produced and who are the up-and-coming chefs who will be cooking it? 

Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Life Science Centre

Now in its 50th year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition provides a global showcase of the very best nature photography. The competition boasts talent from professional and amateur photographers of all ages, from around the globe. Wildlife Photographer of the Year is co-owned by the Natural History Museum and BBC Worldwide, and this year includes the stunning winning image by Michael ‘Nick’ Nichols.

Top Gear Live, Metro Radio Arena

Fronted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, Top Gear Live brings to life the massively popular BBC 2 TV programme. Featuring breathtaking stunts, some of the world’s most incredible cars and the usual calamitous mucking about, it's not hard to see why Top Gear Live has become a global phenomenon having played to almost two million fans in 22 countries. 

Mark Thomas - Cuckooed, Northern Stage

Following a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe run, one of comedy's elder statesmen and all-round arty mischief-maker embarks on his eighth nationwide tour this autumn with a comedy of betrayal. Mark Thomas tells his true story of how Britain's biggest arms manufacturer, BAE Systems, came to spy on a comedian in this five star, multi-award-winning tale of hubris, planes, demos and undercover deceit.

Chinese New Year Celebrations, Stowell Street

Join the celebrations as we mark the arrival of Chinese New Year and the Year of the Sheep with a day of Chinese-inspired events, performances and activities for all the family. Enjoy traditional crafts, dance, martial arts, food and drink, games and much more with a vibrant and colourful party in and around Stowell Street and Chinatown, from 11am to 4pm.
