Wow, just when I had written off the Summer the sun put his hat back on and turned August in to Awesome August! I had a great month in Geordieland and the sunshine encouraged me to spend more time than usual on our glorious quayside! I felt the sand between my toes on the Quayside Seaside, I watched the powerboats zoom down the Tyne in the Zapcat Grand Prix, I was treated to a slap up Sunday lunch at Cafe 21 as an early birthday treat and I picked up some bargains at the Quayside market! I really do love it down there and always tell anyone that's visiting the North East that no trip is complete without spending a few hours along the banks of the Tyne!

I also made a return visit the the Life Science Centre in August to check out the extraordinaryBODY WORLDS Vital. It's an intriguing exhibition featuring preserved human bodies, not for the faint hearted but totally fascinating!

Another highlight of the month was the incredible 'EAT! Out'… there were loads of quirky foodie events taking place across NewcastleGateshead from the 8 - 17 August, from Mad Hatters tea parties to naked feasts! I spent a lovely afternoon making the most of the Food Heroes Market at the Monument, trying out lots of local produce. This was also the location for a world record attempt by Geordie chef and Masterchef Live winner Gareth Kyle, I'm pleased to say he earned himself a place in the record books by putting on the longest ever chef demonstration, he cooked for an incredible 41 hours!

There was a bank holiday at the end of August, always a joy, but I actually left Geordieland for a few days over the long weekend and took my mum on her first holiday abroad in over 30 years!  She met me after work on the Friday and we head straight to the brand new Tyneside Bar Cafe to start our quality time together in style! We then had our nails done at Artemis Qin, a fabulous nail bar just by the Theatre Royal, highly recommended. We flew from Newcastle International Airport to Faro early on Saturday morning and I surprised my Mum by whisking her off to the new AspirePlus Lounge, definitely the secret to happy travel!

Don't forget to check back in September to find out what I get up to for my birthday and to hear all about the Great North Run celebrations. Until then you can also follow me on Twitter:@rachmotormouth
