See the Olympic Torch transported via zip wire from the Tyne Bridge to the iconic Quayside. The Torch’s arrival will be marked by an evening of entertainment showcasing the culture and heritage of the region, including The Sage Gateshead’s JigHop – a fusion of folk music and dance with urban culture, under the artistic direction of Kathryn Tickell. Free but ticketed event – please see website for details.
The Olympic Flame will travel to within an hour of 95 per cent of people in the UK, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey during the 70-day Olympic Torch Relay. It will enable local communities to shine a light on the best their area has to offer – from breathtaking landscapes to dynamic urban areas. The Olmpic Torch will be in NewcastleGateshead on Friday 15 June.
