Music
Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena attracts big name acts from around the world with its huge capacity whilst The Sage Gateshead caters for both international sensations and local favourites alike with its wonderfully well-designed and versatile performance spaces as well as a whole host of participatory and learning activities to engage the community. The O2 Academy provides a top-class performance space for up-and-coming acts who haven’t made the arena... yet, as well as underground favourites.
Newcastle's superclub Digital attracts top DJs from around the world hosting nights like Turbulence which, running for over a decade, has established itself as the best drum and bass night in the North East, whilst Sunderland city centre’s fast-growing and rich offering of bars, pubs and clubs is fast becoming known as an underground hotspot for edgy, upcoming music. As well as all these, NewcastleGateshead is littered with smaller venues like the Cluny and The Cumberland Arms who host more intimate gigs, local acts and extremely popular folk nights where everyone is encouraged to join in!
Add to our various music festivals, headed up by the spectacular Evolution Weekender which transforms NewcastleGateshead's stunning Quayside to an eclectic outdoor music venue for two days each year in May, as well as other events such at the Gateshead International Jazz Festival annually in March, and the SummerTyne Americana Festival which takes place in July.
