Fake Festival
Concert
Glastonbury may be having a break this year, but the Fake Festivals Tour is back bigger and better than ever before with early bird tickets now on sale, and Tynemouth kicking off the proceedings for the first time on May 5th!
Now in its sixth year, the tour is always sure to start with a bang and thanks to Bec Cottrell from Gateshead becoming a licensee, Tynemouth now how has its very own Fake Festival, meaning people of the North East can experience festival fever right on their doorstep too.
Taking place at Percy Park Rugby Club and with performances from some of the best and internationally acclaimed tribute bands in the world including Coldplace, The Really Hot Chili Peppers and Kings of Lyon, as well as five local support bands, it’s the ultimate destination for your festival fix. Plus, it can offer a guarantee like no other – the British weather can’t ruin it!
Taking place inside a marquee and boasting a main stage with a state of the art sound and lighting system, people can enjoy the full festival vibe but without the beer and brolly juggling! Plus, a secured area featuring a variety of food stalls, face painting, a bucking bronco, bungee run and bouncy castle, ensures there’s plenty for families to enjoy too at this community led event.
“The 2012 tour is the biggest to date and thanks to the new licensing system, more parts of the country can now experience one than ever before,” says Jez Lee, founder of Fake Festivals.
The North East is one such region and because of Bec Cotrell’s attendance at Brough Fake Festival last year, Tyneside will now be hosting their very own one this May Bank Holiday weekend.
“I went to my first Fake Festival last summer and was simply blown away by the quality of bands and the event. There’s nothing quite like this running up in the North East music scene and once I’d explored the idea further, I became completely captivated by the whole concept,” she explains.
“It’s unique as it gives people the opportunity to be wowed by real talent on their doorstep without the usual hefty ticket price. Plus, with tribute bands headlining who are packing out international venues and local support bands, it has all the credentials of an amazing event, but without the anonymity of large arenas or big, traditional festivals like Glastonbury and V – I’d really like to see this become an annual date for the Tynemouth diary,” she says.
With highly acclaimed tributes headliners such as Coldplace citing Fake Festivals as the highlight of their year and previous tours selling out, people are encouraged to grab their tickets at an Early Bird discounted rate (available until April 5th) either online at www.fakefestivals.co.uk or from Percy Park RFC.
“We love performing at them - the whole atmosphere inside the marquee is electric. And we really feel part of it as we can get so close to the crowd when performing,” Coldplace’s Shane Croft explains.
“Expect to see the Coldplay show when we perform, we have all the new songs along with all the classics in our set, as well as a great light show!”
Tynemouth Fake Festival’s line-up this year includes Coldplace, The Really Hot Chili Peppers and Kings Of Lyon.
