The Old Fulling Mill Museum of Archaeology

Museum closed for essential building work
Due to vital building work on the exterior of the mill building we have forced to close the Old Fulling Mill Museum of Archaeology to the public. Family Activities now taking place at the Oriental Museum. Please see website for further updates.

Once a key part of Durham's cloth-making industry, The Old Fulling Mill is now home to Durham University's Museum of Archaeology.

The collections on display provide a fascinating insight into the rich heritage of the North East of England, as well as showcasing items from across Europe. Highlights include outstanding Roman collections together with Anglo-Saxon, Medieval and Tudor finds from Durham City and the local area.

In addition to the permanent displays, The Old Fulling Mill hosts regularly changing, temporary exhibitions and a lively programme of family activities at weekends and during school holidays.

Durham University’s new Visitor Attraction Pass allows you to experience a visit to the Old Fulling Mill, together with Durham Castle, the Botanic Garden, and the Oriental Museum, all for 1 set price. This will allow 1 day entry into each of the venues at any point within a 3 month period from the date of purchase (subject to venue opening hours). An ideal gift idea the pass is available to purchase from each of the venues, at the Durham Tourist Information Centre or online http://www.dur.ac.uk/university.shop/merchandise/order/
