The Chapter House Glass Gallery

Jane Charles Studio Glass is going through some big changes during 2011.After 24 years at Whitehouse Enterprise Centre in Scotswood Jane moved studios in February due to the demolition of the centre. Her new studio is fittingly located just along from the Lemington Glassworks cone which was the last remaining glass factory in Newcastle until its closure in the 90s.

Established in 1987 Jane Charles Studio Glass is now the only independent hot glass studio in the north east of England. Using the traditional methods of hot glass making Jane produces a wide range of perfume bottles paperweights vases bowls and sculptural work which are in public and private collections around the world.

In April Jane opened the Chapter House Glass Gallery in the beautiful surroundings of the 13th century Friary called Blackfriars situated in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. The Chapter House provides a stunning backdrop for an exciting display of glass by Jane Charles and Julia Linstead.

Jane is keen to encourage the public to visit both locations so that they may get a real insight into the skills involved in producing this work.

The studio is open 10am-6pm Mon Tues Wed Fri, 10am-3pm Thurs and by appointment at weekends. Please ring first if you are wishing to watch a glassmaking demo. The Gallery is open Tues – Sat 11am-5pm.
