From its base on Newcastle's quayside, Live Theatre produces work as varied and diverse as the audiences it engages with. To do this it:
- Creates and performs new plays of world class quality
- Finds and develops creative talent
- Unlocks the potential of young people through theatre
Live Theatre Company was founded on Tyneside in 1973. Its work has a strong regional identity, and aims to attract new audiences to its friendly and informal theatre space. Following an impressive £5.5m renovation which joined together four historic, listed buildings, Live Theatre has recently reopened it's doors as a beautiful, 21st century new writing theatre for the region.
Live Theatre explores ideas in new writing and thus creates and presents work that is challenging, popular and relevant. Their recent production of The Pitmen Painters which premiered at Live Theatre has received international acclaim, even enjoying a successful run on Broadway.
