Globe Gallery
Gallery
Globe is a contemporary arts organisation with artists and the community at its heart. It seeks to engage people from all backgrounds by forging relationships with contemporary art, developing creativity, confidence and ultimately social capital in everyone involved.
In April 2011 Globe Gallery moved to it's current base in a disused bank in Newcastle city centre - an ideal location to facilitate effective new ways to link exhibition and participation, artists with audiences and volunteers of all ages, to create a uniquely vibrant and engaging form of user-focused contemporary arts space, providing great conditions for experiencing art and challenging audiences. The venue is perfectly positioned within Newcastle’s ‘Discovery Quarter’, allowing exceptional opportunities for partnership working with neighbouring cultural organisations. Globe will also continue to build upon its existing network of partners across the region using the new building as a hub for participatory contemporary arts practice.
Globe blends high standards of artistic presentation, an integrated volunteering programme and a firm commitment to the development of emerging and established artists to produce powerful experiences for all participants. The organisation has a strong history of great exhibitions, with artist and audience development and community participation at its core. It has well-developed volunteer and emerging artist support systems as well as multiple evaluation mechanisms in place to ensure individualised and mutually beneficial involvement at every level. Working with contemporary art and artists has helped people from a diverse range of backgrounds gain confidence, improve skills and increase employability, and most importantly enjoy themselves.
Delivery of the ‘Supported Artist’ programme will be enhanced with the provision of studio space and continuous professional support during the yearlong internship. Other initiatives such as the ‘Schools Project’ programme, ‘Empty Shop Partnerships’ projects, a bespoke dark room, an expanded shop and ‘Specialist Provider’ service to the new Work Programme and other public sector service providers all seek to develop Globe’s revenue generation through innovative social enterprise.
