Gateshead Thunder are the North East's only professional Rugby League Club based in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.

We are the highest placed sporting club in Gateshead, and we play our home matches at Gateshead International Stadium though for rugby league purposes this is referred to as the 'Thunderdome'.

The club plays in the third tier of rugby league in England, The Co-operative Championship One. They are the only professional rugby league team in the North East of England and their reserves play in the Rugby League Conference National Division under the name Gateshead Lightning.

We are more than just a sporting team, with a vibrant community programme that stretches across the whole of Tyne & Wear, with our Community Rugby League Coaches working across Gateshead, Newcastle, Sunderland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Northumberland, as well as coaches across County Durham. We involve over 3,000 school children and community participants per month and have formed a charity - the Thunder Community Trust.
