The displays are regularly updated and complemented by an array of free, fun learning activities and a changing programme of exhibitions.

One of the favourite exhibits - Turbinia - dominates the entrance to the Museum. Invented on Tyneside, it is the first ship to be powered by a steam turbine. The 35 metre vessel was once the fastest ship in the world and her history is brought to life in the Turbinia Story display. She sets the standard for a day out that is guaranteed to be filled with breath-taking discoveries.

Ways to Play- Funtastic free events across Tyneside at your favourite family destinations all summer! You can design a lighthouse, create a wooden kite ornament or make a pop up Newcastle book during the summer at Discovery Museum.

Discovery Museum is managed by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) on behalf of Newcastle City Council. TWAM have an extensive archive exploring North East history and heritage and includes things you may not expect! Heavier! Faster! Louder! The Story of Tyneside Heavy Metal is a six-part audio documentary narrated by renowned hard rock DJ Alan Robson and is available for you to listen to thanks to Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums. Discovery Museum have also launched a new online exhibition & Victorian underwear film: The Female Form Through Time.
