Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens is a magnificent English Heritage venue just outside Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. An architectural masterpiece, influenced heavily by the temples of ancient Greece, the Grand Grecian Hall is a true spectacle. Explore the Middleton family bedrooms with incredible views over rest of the estate. Whilst the hall itself is unfurnished, beautiful floral print wallpaper from the 1800's still lines the walls. Using rocks hewn from the quarry on the Belsay grounds the hall was completed in 1817, with its incredible ionic columns, through which you can still wander today, being one of it's many splendid features.

After viewing the hall, take a stroll through the restored Grade I heritage gardens, exploring a vast range of shrubbery and flowers, with an atmosphere that changes with the seasons. Visiting the Quarry Garden is the highlight of many a visit, a real one of a kind feature within an already spectacular garden.

The hall and garden perfectly complement the impressive medieval castle which, from the top of the tower, offer spectacular views over the estate and surrounding countryside. Thankfully the hall's original kitchen is now home to the Belsay Hall Tearoom, the perfect place to rest after working up an appetite. With regular events and activities for the whole family, a trip to Belsay Hall, Castle and Garden is the perfect family day out.

Dogs are welcome in the grounds on a short lead. No dogs allowed in the hall or castle. Assistance dogs are welcome.

Ride the 6-metre slide!

Visitors to Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens can now access the roof to take in the spectacular views across Northumberland and choose to take a more unusual approach to getting down, thanks to a 6.6 metre slide which has been installed at the property. The temporary slide, which descends from the roof into the garden is now open for all your sliding needs, and is part of an exciting project giving visitors unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to major conservation works taking place at Belsay over the next 12 months. A specially built platform has been installed at roof-level, enabling you to see the conservation in action and to enjoy views of the stunning Northumberland countryside.

In addition to an extensive programme of conservation English Heritage, the charity responsible for managing Belsay Hall, is restoring the renowned gardens and creating a new family-friendly cafe and woodland play area. The project is possible because of generous donations from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Foyle Foundation and other donors.
