Visitors to The Tall Ships' Races, to be held on the Tyne from July 25th until July 28th, can now buy a pre-paid ticket for £3.20 per day of the Tall Ships spectacle which can be used on Metro and the Shields Ferry.
It’s the best and the most cost-effective way to see the Tall Ships, say Nexus bosses, who have also ensured the tickets bear the Tall Ships logo for commemorative purposes.
Director General of Nexus, Mike Parker, said: "The Tall Ships’ Race promises to be a fantastic event for Newcastle, Gateshead and the Tyne, one that will bring thousands of visitors to the region.
"The Metro and the Shields Ferry are ideal modes of transport to see the Tall Ships and our pre-paid ticket is the best and most cost effective fare.
"It gives unlimited travel on the Metro system and the Shields Ferry, which enables you to hop on and off where you choose, and as often as you like."
The Tyne will be transformed into one big sea-and-street carnival when the Tall Ships arrive next month.
Metro has designated Manors, Central, Monument and Gateshead as Tall Ships stations (they provide the best access points to the River) and at the coast people are being directed to North and South Shields stations to access vantage points as the ships arrive and leave.
More than 100 spectacular schooners, clippers and square-riggers will arrive to weigh anchor for four days after completing the first leg of the 2005 Tall Ships race from Waterford in Ireland.
It’s an unmissable chance to see these majestic, rectangular sailed giants in their full glory, as their crews get ready for the next leg of 2005 Tall Ships race to Fredrikstad in Norway.
The Metro Tall Ships’ Ticket can be bought in advance by calling 0191 203 3315.
