Just north of Newcastle City Centre, Jesmond is a fashionable, leafy suburb inhabited increasingly by students and young professionals. It's beautiful rows of terraced houses are interrupted by a wide variety of eclectic boutiques, cafes and restaurants, and Jesmond Dene, an area of outstanding natural beauty, is just on the doorstep.
Jesmond's two Metro stations provide convenient access to newcastle City Centre, which can also be easily accessed on foot, making it a great place to visit for a day, while it's wide selection of hotels and acommodation make it one of the best places to stay outside of the city centre. Make sure to visit Osborne Road for a great night out at its many bars and restaurants, or make yourself at home at one of its many hotels. The Caledonian Hotel is situated at the heart of this bustling strip and, combining Georgian architecture with a contemprary edge, also houses the Billabong Bar, with excellent gastro pub style menu, or Billabong Bistro, for delicious Asian-fusion cuisine. Alternatively, spend an evening in As You Like It, a sprawling venue over three floors which includes four stunning bars, an elegant garden terrace and a restaurant serving locally sourced, home-style cooking at its very best, as well as playing host to a wide variety of regular and special events.
For a really luxurious stay check into the beautiful, boutique hotel Jesmond Dene House, or enjoy Modern British cuisine served with style and elegance in their three AA rosette restaurant. Situated in the heart of Jesmond Dene, the beautiful Georgain building is bathed in the peace and tranquility of this wooded valley criss-crossed with paths and dotted with waterfalls and rustic bridges. Look out for kingfishers and red squirrels.
Visit Acorn Road to find a selection of unique boutques to browse alongside cafes in which to while away the afternoons as you watch the world go by, or visit Brentwood Avenue for a similar cafe-culture, boutique-rich experience.
