10 Days, 10 Sites for NewcastleGateshead Picnopolis
Weather update 20 August - There is full access on the MOTHERPLANE (care to be taken as it is still wet) and the BABYPLANES event at Bill Quay Farm is going ahead.
Tokyo Picnic Club (TPC)'s "Picnopolis NewcastleGateshead" is a FREE event which invites you to share 10 days of picnic throughout the city. As part of EAST'08 - a world-class celebration of contemporary Asian culture in NewcastleGateshead - TPC will create two different kinds of picnic site, BABYPLANES and MOTHERPLANE, providing a unique opportunity to enjoy summer in the city.
During 10 days, BABYPLANES will travel around 10 of the best picnic sites in NewcastleGateshead, while MOTHERPLANE stays at Baltic Square, Gateshead Quays awaiting the return of her babies. All sites are open and free to everyone for picnic, but be careful because TPC will have its spies out documenting your picnic recipes and hampers!
Picnopolis will also feature a number of special events including a Japanese Tea Ceremony, a Picnic Contest and family workshops at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, and will work in partnership with local cafés and food outlets to introduce Picnopolis Speciality Foods.
